Bhairahawa (usually called only 'Bhairawa') is
just 4 Km from the Indian border and lies on the road to Varanasi
and Delhi. It is also the closest town to Lumbini, the birthplace
of the Buddha. Its neighbour, Sunauli though well known being
the last stop for buses within Nepal, is merely a collection
of hotels and offices. But it is one of the important entry
points for tourists traveling to Nepal from north- western
India by road. Bhairawa is a large town with its own industry
of wood seasoning, banks, Government offices and a large market.
Many travelers halt overnight at Sunauli. The name Siddharthanagar
is rarely used. There are regular night-buses and scheduled
flights to Bhairahawa from Kathmandu.
