Biratnagar is an important center for flights in
eastern Nepal. Flights to Taplejung and Bhojpur fly from the
airport in Biratnagar. People traveling to Dharan and other
eastern parts of the country also rely on this short flight.
From here Kakarvitta, the eastern entry point to Nepal is a
short drive away.
The city itself is not of much interest to the tourist but
the flight provides superb views of the Himalayas from Kanchenjunga
to Langtang. Biratnagar is a typical terai city at 70m above
sea level. This city serves best as the transit point to the
Kosi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, Dharan, Dhankuta, Hile and the
surrounding trekking areas. Many trekkers catch another flight
from this city to the area of their choice like the Kanchenjunga
region, Makalu or Arun valley trek.
