This region offers endless opportunities to test your trekking skills. You can try the eastern approach to Everest, the remote Makalu Base Camp or the areas near Kanchenjunga.
Besides, you also come across many ethnic groups, which makes the trek more interesting.
Trekking in this area is comparatively more expensive as you will have to travel to starting points, along with your gear either by bus or plane.
Also keep in mind that the weather in this region is often cloudy or rainy. And since this is an area less frequented by trekkers, the accommodation facilities are almost close to nil.

Note
The starting point for treks in this region are well connected by air. So you can fly to Biratnagar, Taplejung, Tumlingtar, Bhojpur or Lukla.
The other option is to take a bus, truck or taxi to the starting points of Biratnagar, Dharan, Hile, Basantpur and Ilam. After finishing a trek in this region, you also have the option of taking the road to India, instead of going back to Kathmandu.
