Situated 6 km to the north of Bharatpur.
Devghat
is mentioned in the Skanda Purana. It lies near a sandy beach
and hills with light forest cover. Many Hindus are seen to
come here to spend their last days wishing to be cremated
at this holy spot. But people also come here for marriage
rituals and large family gatherings take place. The most important
festival celebrated here is the Maghe Sakranti when Nepali
as well as Indian pilgrims congregate. With its proximity
to Bharatpur airport, Devghat is easily reached by air. There
are daily flights and is only a short flight from Kathmandu.
There are also daily buses available and for accommodation
there are the hundreds of hotels in and around the Royal Chitwan
National Park, which is close by.
