Nepal
has for decades been hyped as the land of the mighty Himalayas.
But look elsewhere in the country and there is a host of adventures
unrelated to mountains waiting for you. Safaris In the national
parks of the Terai take you far from the trappings of civilization,
where animals roam freely in the wild, as they did millennia
ago. There are elephant rides, boat rides; jeep safari and dugout
canoe rides with Tharu guides, to name a few activities. Go
bird watching, rafting, fishing or simply village exploring
near the parks.
In the mountains
you can spend days or even months; trekking, climbing peaks,
bird watching, mountain viewing or even hunting in remote areas.
While in
Kathmandu valley don't miss the bungy jump that is all the rage
lately. Besides, there is canyoning, mountain biking or rock
climbing to test your fitness. You can opt for the unforgettable
trip on a hot air balloon over the city or soar over the majestic
Himalayas on an early morning mountain flight. Incredible views!
Within the
city of Kathmandu, you can indulge in the various international
delicacies dished out by the hundreds of restaurants spread
around the capital. Shop for exotic souvenirs, visit museums,
watch the numerous festivals on the streets or even go casino-
hopping. There are four casinos in Kathmandu.
On the sober
side, there are cultural tours and pilgrimages that take you
to fascinating temples and stupas that are outstanding works
of art in wood, stone and metal. Walk into a living museum that
has fascinated foreigners for ages. Of late, Kathmandu and Pokhara
have also seen visitors of a different nature. These two valleys
have become the favored locations for conferences and business
meetings combined with holiday package tours.
Driving or
biking around the countryside reveals beautiful landscapes that
are waiting to be discovered. There is no end to adventure in
this fascinating country of mountains, valleys, lakes and more
than two hundred different ethnic groups of people. This is
the land of the highest mountain in the world, the deepest gorge
as well as the highest lake in the world. Come, see and enjoy
Nepal.
